President Asif Ali Zardari Meets Chinese President Xi Jinping

Beijing: President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, met with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, during his official visit to China.

The two leaders held discussions on regional and global issues, emphasizing the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in enhancing regional connectivity, mutual benefits, and economic prosperity.

According to the official statement released by the Presidential Press Wing, the meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Both leaders engaged in high-level talks alongside their respective delegations, discussing the steady progress of bilateral relations and key international affairs.

Before the meeting, a grand welcome ceremony was held in President Zardari’s honor. President Xi Jinping warmly received him at the Great Hall of the People.

During the meeting, the two presidents exchanged views on matters of mutual interest at regional and international levels. They also explored opportunities to further expand bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting each other on issues of core interest.

President Asif Ali Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to its “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership” with China. He highlighted the unique and time-tested nature of the Pakistan-China relationship, acknowledging China's remarkable progress and prosperity as a testament to its leadership's vision and the dedication of the Chinese people.

The Pakistani president also praised China’s role in global development under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He emphasized that the CPEC is a shining example of mutually beneficial cooperation under the BRI framework. The two leaders also discussed advancing the next phase of CPEC, known as CPEC 2.0, which aims to ensure high-quality development.

In addition to economic collaboration, the leaders stressed the importance of enhancing people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges to strengthen the Pakistan-China community with a shared future.

During the meeting, President Asif Ali Zardari extended an invitation to President Xi Jinping to visit Pakistan, stating that the people and government of Pakistan deeply value him as a visionary leader and a special friend of the country.

Following the talks, both sides signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including science and technology, media, energy, and socio-economic development.

Later, President Xi Jinping hosted a state banquet in honor of President Asif Ali Zardari and his delegation.
